A 5-year-old boy who was trapped under a neighbor’s garage door died around 10:30 a.m. today at Akron Children’s Hospital.
Maciah Jase Yoder was injured when a group of neighborhood children were playing together at a home on Cherry Ridge Drive in Sugarcreek on Sept. 9.
“Maciah was a beautiful, vibrant blonde haired little boy that was full of life and love,” parents Karen and Michael Yoder said in a statement relayed by family friend Jason Corley. “His barefoot innocence and smile was infectious. He will be missed but never forgotten.”
Maciah was the youngest of the couple’s four sons.
Jason’s wife Lindsay announced the news on her Facebook page by saying, “Sweet (Maciah) has entered the gates of Heaven this morning. Thank you all so much for your thoughts and prayers. We can feel them. Please continue to pray for the family as they come home and try to adjust with life without him.”
“He’s going to be dearly, dearly missed,” Jason said.
Arrangements are pending with the Smith-Varns Funeral Home of Sugarcreek.
The Summit County Medical Examiner will conduct an autopsy, according to Gary Guenther, chief medical examiner.
